Honor your favorite volunteer with a council award

Girl Scout volunteers are the best around. They give their time, support, and energy to Girl Scouts, fellow volunteers, and caring adults. Help us show appreciation and nominate a deserving volunteer for a council award.

Nominations must be submitted by the last Friday in July. Be sure to include the person(s) complete name, award name, your name as the nominator, and a brief description of why the person(s) deserves the award. Some awards also require letters of endorsement; see the  full awards descriptions and criteria (PDF).

Anyone can submit an award nomination. Council awards are reviewed by the Adult Recognition Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Awards will be presented at Recognition of Excellence. Learn how to write a strong nomination.

For Service Unit Awards, visit the Service Unit Volunteers page.

Thanks Badge II Pin For a volunteer or staff member who received the Thanks Badge and continues to provide distinguished service.
President's Award For a service-delivery team, task group, or committee whose exceptional service supporting the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) exceeds goals and creates a significant, measurable impact on the council’s overarching objectives.

Years of Service & Membership Pins

Currently registered Girl Scout adults can receive recognition for their years of volunteer service and years of Girl Scout membership at five-year intervals.

Years of Membership includes every year an individual has been a registered member (youth and adult years) and does not have to be consistent or consecutive. Pins for 50 or more years of membership are presented at our Recognition of Excellence awards ceremony.

Years of Service represents the number of years an adult volunteer has actively provided service, is not based on membership years, and does not need to be consistent or consecutive. Pins for 25 or more years of service are presented at our Recognition of Excellence awards ceremony.

Writing a Strong Nomination toggle arrow

When writing a nomination or endorsement for a council or service unit award, take the time to be detailed and provide examples. Your nomination/endorsement should demonstrate the impact of your nominee. Consider a few questions to help you write a stronger nomination:

  • What has the person or group done to earn the award? Be specific.
  • Why is the person/group and their effort worthy of recognition? What makes it unique?
  • How did they benefit the Girl Scouts, troop, service unit, or council? Give examples.

Your goal is to give the review committee a strong sense of what your nominee has accomplished. When in doubt, consider these questions: who, what, where, when, why, and how. See the examples below.

Original statement: "She always goes above and beyond."
How to make it stronger: Be specific! Tell a story about how the troop, service unit, or Girl Scouts benefit from the nominee and their efforts. Explain how their efforts go beyond expectations.

Original statement: "She's been an effective leader for a long time."
How to make it stronger: Give details about how long they've been a leader, what levels (Girl Scout, troop, or service unit), and what made them effective. Is it a combination of factors, like communication and organizational skills?
